Speeding driver fined

January 8, 2019

Yesterday the Suðurnes police (south west Iceland) stopped a driver who was driving way past the speed limit and was clocked in at 160 km/h on the Reykjanesbraut (the highway to and from the airport) last night, but the maximum speed there is 90 km/h.

According to the sergeant on duty, a foreign tourist was driving a rental car and admitted his speeding. The fine for such driving is 230 tousand krona (ISK) but since the driver paid the fine on the spot he got discount and  paid 170 thousand ISK.
