Need Flexible Hours? Choose Self-Service! Pick up or return your car outside regular office hours with ease.
Our office operates from 5 am to 10 pm daily, but you can access your vehicle at any time by selecting our self-service option.
How Self-Service Works
What is Self-Service?
It's a feature that lets you handle paperwork in advance and use a key box system for picking up or dropping off your rental car outside office hours.
Self-Service Pick-Up
Self-Service Pick-up Booking Process
- Purchase full protection insurance package when booking your rental car on our website. More information about insurance here.
- Complete online check-in 2 to 5 days before arrival by logging into Manage my booking clicking "Online Check-in," and following the steps.
Ensure you tick the "Pick-Up" in the first step of the online check-in process.
Complete all steps, including reviewing your booking, providing contact and driver's license information, and paying any outstanding fees.
Note: Online check-in closes 8 hours before pick-up; failure to complete it means you must pick up your vehicle during office hours.
Pick-Up Key Collection
ONLY WORKS IF YOU BOOKED THE SELF-SERVICE FIRST (SEE PICK-UP BOOKING PROCESS)
- A few hours before your arrival, your car keys will be placed in the key box by our team.
- You'll receive an email with a code to access the key box and detailed instructions.
- Upon your arrival at Keflavik Airport, a dedicated shuttle will pick you up and transport you to our Lava Car Rental office for free (just a 5-minute drive).
- Collect your car key in the key box and start your trip with your rental car.
Self-Service Drop-Off

- Request Self-Service drop-off during car rental pick-up by informing our front desk agent or by sending us an email at info@lavacarrental.is during your trip. You'll receive an email with a code for our self-service key box and drop-off instructions.
Drop-Off Key Collection
ONLY WORKS IF YOU BOOKED THE SELF-SERVICE FIRST (SEE DROP-OFF BOOKING PROCESS)
- Park your car in front of our office and place the key in the key box.
- Contact our shuttle when you're in front of the office.
- Enjoy a complimentary shuttle ride to the airport.
Allocate approximately 30 minutes for the drop-off process.
