How does Lava Car Rental secure my safety during COVID-19?

Lava Car Rental puts extra effort into making sure you have a safe trip in Iceland. All cars are cleaned and sanitized before and after rentals. Cars are quarantined if needed. Our team cleans regularly frequently touched surfaces, respects the social distancing, and wears masks.

Lava Car Rental also relaxed its change and cancellation policies to meet your need for flexibility in those strange times. You can now change or cancel your booking up to 48 hours before pick up. Check our terms and conditions for more details. 

What is the cancellation policy if you are tested positive for Covid-19?

If you are tested positive for Covid-19 more than 48 hours before picking up your car rental, you can cancel or postpone your booking directly on our website by logging in Manage My Booking. You can also send an email to info@lavacarrental.is

If you are tested positive for Covid-19 less than 48 hours before picking up the car or upon arrival, you can postpone your rental to a later date by sending us an email at info@lavacarrental.is with the confirmation of your test result.

What is the minimum age for renting a car?

The minimum age to rent a car with Lava Car Rental is 20 years old.

What documents do I need to rent a car?

You will need a valid driver's license and a valid credit card. The additional drivers also need to show a valid driver's license. Foreign licenses are accepted if they are valid and written in the Latin alphabet. If they are not in the Latin alphabet, you need to come with an official English translation of the driving license.

If you do not have a credit card, Lava Car Rental also accepts debit cards. 

If you have rented the car through a travel agency, you will need to show the travel agency's voucher.

Do I have to leave a deposit to rent a car?

We do not hold a deposit from our customers while they have the rental car.

We only need to see a valid credit card on arrival, we will only hold the imprint of the card as a guarantee. If the renter does not have a credit card, we do accept 16 number debit card.

What is included in the rental price?

The followings are included in the price of each rental from Lava Car Rental:

What is the minimum rental period?

Our minimum rental period is 48 hours. You can rent the car for 24 hours, but we will charge for 48 hours.

Can I extend my car rental reservation once I have picked up the car?

Yes, you can if the car is available on the desired dates. Please contact us at info@lavacarrental.is to check with our team.

Do you offer zero-deductible insurance?

Yes, we do offer the Platinum Insurance Package pack with no self-risk.

This pack includes: 

  • CDW: Collision Damage Waiver
  • SCDW: Super Collision Damage Waiver
  • GP: Gravel Protection
  • SAAP: Sand and Ash Protection
  • TP: Theft Protection

Can I be sure that the selected vehicle is available?

Yes, all cars marked available on our website on a selected date are available.

Can I return my car outside of office hours?

Yes, Lava Car Rental offers 24/7 drop-off service at Keflavik Airport and at the car rental office.

Do I get a refund if I return earlier?

We do not refund for early returns. The price paid upon making a booking is the price paid for the time the car is reserved for in your booking. 

Where is Lava Car Rental office located?

Our office is located at Flugvellir 6, 230 Reykjanesbaer in Iceland. Only 5 minutes driving from Keflavik International Airport. You can see our location on Google Maps.

Do you have emergency assistance?

Yes, we have 24/7 emergency breakdown assistance. The breakdown assistance is designed to help you in case of accidents and breakdowns. You can call our emergency hotline at anytime at +354 519 4141 during office hours, or +354 419 2400 if you need immediate assistance outside of office hours

If you cannot use the car to continue your trip in Iceland, we will provide you with another car as soon as possible. 

Keep in mind that if the damage is the driver’s responsibility, Lava Car Rental will charge you a service fee. 

Can I forfeit CDW?

Yes, you can forfeit CDW. If you do, please make sure that your credit card insurance covers you well. There is no refund of CDW Insurance in case you forfeit CDW.

Can I drive on F roads?

If you only have a 2-wheel drive car, you are not allowed to drive on roads marked with F.

F roads are only for 4-wheel drive cars. On our list of available vehicles, 4x4 rentals are marked as Suitable for F-Roads.

Does my car have winter tires?

All of our vehicles have winter tires from November 1st to April 1st. Browse our cars and find a rental that fits your expectations and budget!

Can I change my booking after the reservation is confirmed?

Yes, you can change your booking up to 48 hours before the car pick-up. Please send us an email at info@lavacarrental.is or fill out this form and we will modify your reservation accordingly.

How do I pick up/drop off the car?

  • At the car rental office

Pick up: Greeting at the office and you leave with the car

Drop off: You leave the car at the office

  • At Keflavik Airport

Pick up: Lava Car Rental Airport shuttle picks you up at P1 Parking Lot. Time table shuttle: 5:00 - 5:30 - 6:00 - 6:30 and so on... 24/7. Departure every 30 minutes.

Drop off: You drop off the car at the office and our team will drop you off at Keflavik Airport with a shuttle. Time table shuttle: 5:15, 5:45, 6:15, 6:45, and so on... For the entire office opening hours. Departure every 30 minutes.
