What is included in the rental price?

The followings are included in the price of each rental from Lava Car Rental:

Where is Lava Car Rental office located?

Our office is located at Flugvellir 6, 230 Reykjanesbaer in Iceland. Only 3 minutes driving from Keflavik International Airport. You can see our location on Google Maps here.

What documents do I need to rent a car?

You will need a valid driver's license and a valid credit card. The additional drivers also need to show a valid driver's license. 

If you have rented the car through a travel agency, you will need to show the travel agency's voucher.

Can I drive on F roads?

If you only have a 2-wheel drive car, you are not allowed to drive on roads marked with F.

F roads are only for 4-wheel drive cars. On our list of available vehicles, 4x4 rentals are marked as Suitable for F-Roads.

Do I have to return the car full of gas?

Yes, we ask that you return the car with a full tank of gas. However, if you have prepaid for a tank of gas, which you can do upon pickup, you are free to return it empty.

From our Terms of Service:

Renters must return the car with a full tank of gas unless they have prepaid for fuel. If, in any case, the renter does not return the car with a full tank and without having prepaid the fuel, the renter will be charged for the missing fuel and an additional service fee of ISK 5500 for refuelling.

Do I have to leave a deposit to rent a car?

We do not hold a deposit from our customers while they have the rental car.

We only need to see a valid credit card on arrival, we will only hold the imprint of the card as a guarantee. If the renter does not have a credit card, we do accept 16 number debit card.

What is the minimum rental period?

Our minimum rental period is 48 hours. You can rent the car for 24 hours, but we will charge for 48 hours.

Is my car equipped with USB / Aux or Bluetooth?

Yes. All our vehicles are equipped with the above-mentioned ports. 

Do I get a refund if I return earlier?

We do not refund for early returns. The price paid upon making a booking is the price paid for the time the car is reserved for in your booking. 

Is it possible to have my car delivered to my hotel?

Yes. We offer both pickups and drop-offs at hotels and guesthouses in Reykjavik for an additional fee. Please make sure to provide the name and/or address of the hotel when making the reservation. 

Will I be connected to the internet?

You can rent portable 4G Routers which have unlimited data to avoid roaming fees on your mobile phone in all our vehicles. Our routers are all supplied from NOVA, which has excellent coverage in Iceland. 

Does my car have winter tires?

All of our vehicles have winter tires from November 1st to April 1st. Browse our cars and find a rental that fits your expectations and budget!

Can I change my booking after the reservation is confirmed?

Yes, you can change your booking up to 48 hours before the car pick-up. Please send us an email at or fill out the form here and we will modify your reservation accordingly.

What do I do if my car breaks down?

Our emergency hotline is open 24/7. If for some reason the vehicle is not operating as it should and/or you had an accident, call us right away at +354 788-4080. We will either supply you with a new vehicle or locate a service representative close to you to help you immediately. 

What is not covered under the included insurance?

The following is not covered under any circumstances by our insurance: 

  • Negligent driving 
  • Driving while intoxicated 
  • Damage to headlights, undercarriage, and rooftop 
  • Damage caused by driving into water
