Icelandair unlikley to start flights to India

February 4, 2019

Björgólfur Jóhannsson, departed CEO of Icelandair said last spring that Icelandair were looking at destinations in India and the company could start flights there in the fall of 2019. However, scenery has changed and now it is unlikely that scheduled flights to India are in Icelandair near future.  This was confirmed by Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair, at a meeting with journalists on yesterday's Mid-Atlantic travel conference.

The interest of the two Icelandic airlines for scheduled trips to India has therefore greatly diminished. WOW air introduced its scheduled flights to New Delhi shortly after Björgólfur revealed Icelandair's willingness to look into flights to India. In December, WOW aired its maiden voyage to India but dropped the route just six weeks later.
